Basketball Recap: Valley Center Triumphs

Valley Center won the last time they faced Escondido, and Lincoln Zetmeir did his part to make sure it happened again. The Valley Center Jaguars managed a 49-43 victory over the Escondido Cougars on Friday thanks to Zetmeir, who went 9-for-17 en route to 24 points and three steals. That makes it 25 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Valley Center's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Mitchell Stehly, who posted five points and five assists. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Escondido's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danny Valadez, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Nathan James, who had 12 points.

Valley Center's record now sits at 8-17. As for Escondido, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season.

Valley Center didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 91-58 defeat against Fallbrook on the 11th. As for Escondido, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 67-48 loss against San Pasqual on the 11th.
