Softball Preview: Texas Tigers vs. Huntsville Hornets        
        
		
            
 The Texas Tigers will look to defend their home field  on Thursday against the Huntsville Hornets at 6:00  p.m. Both teams come into the  match bolstered by wins in their previous  matches.
 Last Tuesday, Texas earned  an  8-5 win over Pine Tree.
  Eva Treadway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned  (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
 At the plate,  Cali Forte and  Brooklyn Threadgill did most of the damage at the plate:  Forte  went 2-for-3 with a  home run and four  RBI, while  Threadgill  scored two  runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was  Mally Lumpkin, who  scored a  run while going 2-for-4.
 Meanwhile, Huntsville waltzed into their matchup  on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of  5-1.
  Jaelynn Duke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She  tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off   four  hits. Duke has been consistent recently: she hasn't  tossed less than five  strikeouts in 15 consecutive pitching appearances. Duke was also stellar in the batter's box,  going 2-for-4 with a  home run, two  RBI,  and a  double.
 In other batting news,  Katie Vonrosenberg was  excellent,  scoring a  run while going 2-for-4.  Rylie Hammond was another key contributor,  scoring a  run while  getting on base  in all three of her plate appearances.
 Texas' victory bumped their record up to 20-12-1. As for Huntsville, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won 16 of their last 17 games,  which provided a nice bump to their 27-4 record  this season.
 Thursday's   contest will be a test for both team's pitchers. Texas hasn't had any issues making contact this season,  having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Huntsville struggles in that department as   they've  averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
 Texas came up short against Huntsville in their previous matchup  back in April of 2021, falling  7-3. Thankfully for Texas,  Jensen Vienne (who  fired off two  home runs, four  RBI,  and a  stolen base while  getting on base  in all four of her plate appearances) won't be suiting up this time.
