Softball Recap: Trinity Trojans vs. Lutheran West Longhorns
Trinity extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They fell 15-12 to the Lutheran West Longhorns. Even if the Trojans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Carly Myles made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with eight stolen bases and two runs. Those hits were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Sunday, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.
As for Lutheran West, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games.
On Lutheran West's side, Gabriella 'Gabi' List made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. List has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs.
In other batting news, Lutheran West let Kailyn Caster and Peyton Steinbrenner run wild. Caster got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Steinbrenner got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave Caster a new career-high. Aryana 'Ary' Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trinity will challenge Open Door Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lutheran West, they will square off against North Olmsted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
