Softball Game Preview: Blazer Tomcats vs. Ballard Bruins

The Blazer Tomcats will head out on the road to take on the Ballard Bruins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Blazer is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Male hit Blazer with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tomcats came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 13-3.

Meanwhile, Ballard was able to grind out a solid victory over DuPont Manual on Friday, taking the game 5-2. The win continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Crimsons: they've now won four in a row.

Shelby James made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

James wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emery Schuster, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Lucy Strobel, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Ballard's record now sits at 12-9. As for Blazer, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
