Baseball Game Preview: Colebrook Academy Mohawks vs. Pittsburg Panthers

Colebrook Academy is 8-2 against Pittsburg since June of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mohawks will head out to take on the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Colebrook Academy will be strutting in after a win while Pittsburg will be coming in after a loss.

Colebrook Academy came out on top against Profile on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Mohawks put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 10-1 victory. Considering the Mohawks have won eight contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Vinny Santamaria was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Weir, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jack Kyler, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pittsburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat. They lost 23-1 to Lin-Wood. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 22, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Colebrook Academy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 1-20.

Colebrook Academy took their victory against Pittsburg in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 16-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mohawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
