Preview: Byhalia Indians vs. South Pontotoc Cougars

Byhalia has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The South Pontotoc Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Last Thursday, Byhalia was the victim of a tough 35-12 defeat at the hands of North Pontotoc.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ashton Franklin, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Lance Williams also helped out as he racked up 122 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, South Pontotoc took a serious blow against New Albany on Friday, falling 53-3. While losing is never fun, South Pontotoc can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 204th, while New Albany is ranked 93rd).

Byhalia's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.5 points per game. As for South Pontotoc, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
