Softball Recap: Milford Gets the Win

Milford posted their closest victory since March 26th on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Little Miami Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 on April 7th.

Meghan McClellan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lanie McCoy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Varner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Milford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Little Miami, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milford will challenge West Clermont at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.13 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Little Miami, they will head out on the road to square off against Seton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
