Basketball Recap: Genesis Beal's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Weeki Wachee over South Sumter

After flying high against Hudson on Monday, Weeki Wachee came back down to earth. The Hornets fell 50-39 to the South Sumter Raiders on Thursday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Genesis Beal, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. Beal has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karly Pasmore, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Sumter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayla Payne White, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Jenesis Lane, who had 12 points.

Weeki Wachee's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for South Sumter, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Weeki Wachee has already played their next game, a 46-28 victory against Central on the 21st. As for South Sumter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 46-21 loss against Belleview on the 2nd.
