North Johnston is 7-1 against Eastern Wayne since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
North Johnston's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Wilson Prep. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Cameron Cuddington and Charlie Barnes did most of the damage at the plate: Cuddington went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Barnes went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Barnes has posted since back in March. Cooper Hall was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, Eastern Wayne was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their 19th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of Wayne Preparatory Academy.
Jhavon H was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jr G, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Eastern Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for North Johnston, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 15-7.
Eastern Wayne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Johnston has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Eastern Wayne, though, as they've been averaging 13 hits. Given North Johnston's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
North Johnston took their win against Eastern Wayne in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 34-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
