Recap: Commerce Tigers vs. Oconee County Warriors
Even though the Commerce Tigers have not done well against the Oconee County Warriors recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Commerce walked away with a 61-49 win over Oconee County. For Commerce, this counts as revenge for the 33-32 defeat Oconee County walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2020.
Malay L miitchell was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Palumbo, who scored eight points along with seven assists.
Commerce's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Oconee County, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
Commerce will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Prince Avenue Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Prince Avenue Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 371st, while Commerce is ranked 141st). Oconee County and Athens Christian will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
