Baseball Recap: Covington Takes a Loss

Covington extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 9-8 in the process. They came up short against the Riverton Parke Panthers, falling 10-3. Trojans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Panthers since on Saturday.

Covington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyven Hill, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two stolen bases. The Trojans are 4-1 when Hill posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise.

As for Riverton Parke, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Considering they have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Riverton Parke's side, Kyle Price and Jonah Hopkins were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Price tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hopkins struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Price has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Price went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Hopkins went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most runs Price has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Karson Stark and Jackson While did most of the damage at the plate: Stark got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while While went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Stark a new career-high.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Covington beat Riverton Parke by a score of 9-8 later that day.
