Softball Recap: St. John's Takes a Loss

St. John dropped to 10-11 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Bishop O'Connell Knights, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.

As for Bishop O'Connell, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. Considering they have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Bishop O'Connell's part, Annie Van Dyck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 19 Ks. Van Dyck has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ashley Bond, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Gigi Payne, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

St. John's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop O'Connell, they will face off against St. Mary's Ryken at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop O'Connell 1.4, St. Mary's Ryken 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
