Baseball Recap: Maury Starts Season with Victory Against Greenbrier Christian Academy

Maury had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 13-5 margin over the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators on Tuesday. For the Commodores, this counts as revenge for the 7-2 victory the Gators walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2022.

Maury got a great performance from Henry Mulvey as he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Lee Garris was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Baker, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

With the loss, Greenbrier Christian Academy broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maury will head out to face off against Landstown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Collegiate at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
