Basketball Recap: Sequoyah Takes a Loss

Sequoyah lost to Woodstock on January 6th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Chiefs fell 68-61 to the Wolverines. While losing is never fun, the Chiefs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Wolverines are ranked sixth).

Woodstock got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jahmar Maurice out in front who went 9-for-16 en route to 25 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The game was Maurice's tenth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Schulze, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Sequoyah's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Woodstock, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sequoyah will host Lassiter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Woodstock, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against River Ridge at 7:30 p.m. The Wolverines are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
