Basketball Recap: Spring Baptist Academy Comes Up Short

Spring Baptist Academy had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 0-3 to make it five. They took a 37-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Humble Christian Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-26 back in December of 2025.

When it comes to explaining why Spring Baptist Academy lost, don't look at Addyson Doelitsch. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. That was a full 62.5% of the Royals' points, marking the third time in a row Doelitsch has posted more than a third of the team's points.

As for Humble Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points on average over those games.

Humble Christian found their leader in freshman Deriyah Williams, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 steals. Williams has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Vera, who had six points and six steals.

Coming up, Spring Baptist Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Faith Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Royals' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Humble Christian, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Bob Hope at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
