Recap: Smyrna Bulldogs vs. LaVergne Wolverines
The Smyrna Bulldogs suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 72-44 loss at the hands of LaVergne. While losing is never fun, Smyrna can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while LaVergne is ranked 22nd).
Smyrna lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyreque Mccarver, who scored ten points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Mccarver posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Syrus Satterwhite, who scored nine points.
Smyrna has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for LaVergne, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
Smyrna on the road again on Monday and play against Wilson Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th. Wilson Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for LaVergne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cookeville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cookeville is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
