Baseball Game Preview: Auburn Maroons vs. Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars

The Auburn Maroons are taking a road trip to face off against the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Auburn came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against West Genesee, falling 13-4. The Maroons haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Jacob Morrell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles McBride, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Cicero-North Syracuse had just enough and edged out Fayetteville-Manlius 3-2 on Thursday.

Jeremy Palmer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cicero-North Syracuse secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Shacory Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Cicero-North Syracuse has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Auburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Auburn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cicero-North Syracuse struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
