Preview: Howard Huskies vs. West Laurens Raiders
Howard has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The West Laurens Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Laurens took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Howard, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, Howard earned a 28-21 win over Griffin.
Howard can attribute much of their success to Jacolbie Allen, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and Ethan Ellington, who rushed for 41 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, West Laurens' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a tough 32-7 defeat at the hands of Baldwin. While losing is never fun, West Laurens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Baldwin is ranked 125th).
Howard's victory bumped their record up to 4-4. As for West Laurens, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Howard took their win against West Laurens in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 31-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Howard since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
