Baseball Game Preview: Ferndale Yellow Jackets vs. Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams

The Ferndale Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to take on the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ferndale has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Turkeyfoot Valley Area will arrive with three straight wins.

Ferndale came up short against Shanksville Stonycreek on Tuesday, falling 8-1.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Turkeyfoot Valley Area). They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over Hundred on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Rams with their most commanding win of the season.

Lee Bowers was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Luke Bowers, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Turkeyfoot Valley Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Turkeyfoot Valley Area pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Ferndale, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Ferndale was able to grind out a solid victory over Turkeyfoot Valley Area in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
