Softball Recap: Oconto Falls Victorious

Oconto Falls took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Waupaca, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Comets on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

The team relied heavily on Amelia Danielczak, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Delaney McNichols was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Oconto Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Oconto Falls' victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Waupaca, they dropped their record down to 5-17 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Oconto Falls will head out on the road to take on Fox Valley Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fox's pitching crew has only allowed 0.9 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Waupaca does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
