Basketball Recap: Abigail Vancil and Gabriela Gonzalez Secure Win for Taft

After losing to Deerfield the last time they met, Taft decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Taft Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Deerfield Warriors 39-37. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Taft was led to victory by Gabriela Gonzalez and Abigail Vancil. Gonzalez went 5 of 12 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists, while Vancil dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Gonzalez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.

Taft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Taft's win bumped their record up to 8-15. As for Deerfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-14.

Taft didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-41 victory against Westinghouse on the 22nd. Deerfield has also already played their next game, a 43-37 defeat against Highland Park on the 22nd.
