Baseball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it 12. They came up short against the Compton Tarbabes, falling 13-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Apaches of the 12-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

As for Compton, their record now sits at 1-0. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 7, 2025 (when they won 16-4).

For Compton's part, Andrew Ruiz was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Ruiz has posted since back in February of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other pitching news, Andy Estrada looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).

Back at the plate, Anthony Lopez and Anthony Jacobo did most of the damage at the plate: Lopez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Jacobo went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Jacobo has posted since back in March of 2025. Aaron Elias was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Centennial has already played their next game (against Dominguez), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Compton, they will square off against Rancho Dominguez at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
