League recap: El Paso-Gridley scores huge upset over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, who took down 362nd ranked Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, 14-7.

Lexington was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 11th to eighth in Heart of Illinois. Earlier in the week, the Minutemen triumphed over South Fork/Edinburg/Morrisonville 24-14.

Colton Clark and Dustin Payton gave Deer Creek-Mackinaw a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Clark threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns, while Payton ran for 108 yards. Cole Wiegand also contributed to the rushing game with 69 yards on the ground.

Ted Lingle was the best wideout in the league this week as Lexington topped the Ponies. Lingle racked up nine receptions for 131 yards. Logan Kolat helped Lexington's passing attack out by catching two balls for 45 yards.

Donavan Laible provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Mike Castleman's team beat South Fork/Edinburg/Morrisonville. He completed 17 passes for 232 yards and also ran for 65 yards.

The Minutemen's Laible and Jordan Algar have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Laible has thrown for 1602 yards this season, while Algar, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 35 catches for 665 yards. Kody Appel from Flanagan/Woodland leads the league in rushing with 815 yards.

LeRoy moved up to 144 from 200 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Heart of Illinois. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Falcons 49-12.
