Softball Recap: Gilmour Academy Find Success

Gilmour Academy is still undefeated this season after their match against Archbishop Hoban on Thursday, but Archbishop Hoban came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Lancers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights, sneaking past 7-5. The Lancers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Knights, too.

Camden Dreiling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gilmour Academy let Ava Gundling and Hailey Gray run wild. Gundling scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Gray went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Gundling has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aiden Pike, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Gilmour Academy pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Archbishop Hoban, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilmour Academy will host Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Archbishop Hoban, they will challenge Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
