Preview: Bowie Bulldogs vs. Westlake Chaparrals
Bowie is 1-8 against Westlake since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bowie Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Westlake Chaparrals at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Bowie fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They really took it to Akins for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-7 victory at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Bowie just coasted through the last quarter.
Cruz Tello continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 53 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 114 yards and two touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Bowie also got a significant boost from Joe Delmark, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.
Meanwhile, Westlake put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 65-14 victory over Austin. The result was nothing new for Westlake, who have now won five contests by 47 points or more so far this season.
Grady Bartlett was a one-man wrecking crew for Westlake as he rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Another player making a difference was Rees Wise, who threw for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Bowie's victory bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Westlake, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0.
Bowie was taken down by Westlake 45-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Bowie, Keaton Kubecka (who picked up 151 receiving yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
