Baseball Recap: Union City Finds Playoff Glory Versus Seton Catholic

Union City extended their postseason success on Monday against Seton Catholic. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 23-0 win. Considering the Indians have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Trendon Spence made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Union City is 6-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Spence was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Joseangel Perez-Contreras was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Union City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Luke Collins, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

The victory was the third in a row for Union City, bringing their record up to 12-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Seton Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
