Softball Game Preview: Dobie Longhorns vs. Sam Rayburn Texans

Dobie is a perfect 10-0 against Sam Rayburn since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Longhorns will challenge the Texans at 4:00 p.m. Dobie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Dobie was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against South Houston on Tuesday. The Longhorns never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Longhorns considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

The team relied heavily on Alexis Martinez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Leslie Sarduy was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Dobie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .897. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Sam Rayburn's offense. They came up short against Dawson on Tuesday, falling 16-0. The Texans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Dobie is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Sam Rayburn, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19.

Dobie took their victory against Sam Rayburn in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
