Softball Recap: Herbert Hoover Triumphs

Herbert Hoover let Greenbrier East stack four runs on them in the third inning on Thursday but luckily Herbert Hoover prevailed anyway. The Huskies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans, sneaking past 8-6. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.

Herbert Hoover got a great performance from Kaylyn Harper as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Harper has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kyleigh Elmore and Taylor Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Elmore got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Jones went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Jones a new career-high.

Herbert Hoover's victory bumped their record up to 20-6. As for Greenbrier East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.

Herbert Hoover will have a chance to go back-to-back against Greenbrier East: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
