Football Preview: Memorial Warriors vs. Independence Knights
After two games on the road, Memorial is heading back home. They will welcome the Independence Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Friday, Memorial had to suffer through a 66-6 loss at the hands of Melissa. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 604th, while the Cardinals are ranked 48th).
Meanwhile, Independence came into Friday's matchup having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Denison 30-28.
Logan Murindagomo was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 80 yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Independence's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Gianni Giacoman and Tyler Humphrey who racked up all five sacks between them. Memorial dropped their record down to 0-3 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Independence, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
