Softball Recap: Derby's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Derby entered their tilt with Harding on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Presidents. The Red Raiders not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23rd (when they won 26-10).

Kaelyn DiMartino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Derby let Ari McNeill and Emma DeSanty run wild. McNeill went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while DeSanty went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. DeSanty has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Brianna Hubbard was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Derby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.

Derby's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Harding, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Derby will host Wilby at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Harding, they will take on Wright Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Presidents are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
