Softball Recap: Sturgeon Bay Comes Up Short

Sturgeon Bay extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They came up short against the Southern Door Eagles, falling 16-0. If the Clippers were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Southern Door, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Southern Door's part, Ashlyn Delfosse and Samantha Melville made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Delfosse pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Melville pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Delfosse has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Delfosse went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Melville went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Delfosse also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Madyson Counard and Alanah Kaye did most of the damage at the plate: Counard went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Kaye went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Kaye's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Audrey Plzack, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sturgeon Bay will host Gibraltar at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern Door, they will be playing at home against Brillion at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Eagles have won six straight at home, while the Lions won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
