Baseball Game Preview: Seaside Seagulls vs. Astoria Fishermen

Seaside and Astoria are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Seagulls will head out on the road to challenge the Fishermen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Astoria took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Seaside, who comes in off a win.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Seaside and Valley Catholic have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Saturday. The Seagulls put the hurt on the Valiants with a sharp 10-0 win. The Seagulls not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 13-3).

Meanwhile, Astoria came up short against Tillamook on Monday and fell 4-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Fishermen in their meetings with the Cheesemakers: they've now lost four in a row.

Dallas Norris was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Astoria's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Seaside, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-11 record.

Seaside skirted past Astoria 7-5 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seagulls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
