Baseball Game Preview: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Legacy Longhorns

Cheyenne is 0-3 against Legacy since May of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Desert Shields will welcome the Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Cheyenne's offense. They lost 11-0 to Clark on Thursday. The Desert Shields just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Legacy and Southeast Career Tech have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Longhorns came up short against the Roadrunners, falling 10-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Longhorns have suffered since March 25, 2024.

David Paiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Legacy's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Cheyenne, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cheyenne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Legacy struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Cheyenne suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Legacy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Desert Shields avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
