While teams in classes 4A and below have already played as many as four games, teams in 5A and 6A prepare for season openers.
The wait is finally over for large school football programs in the state of Texas. The Lone Star State's elite in Class 5A and 6A are preparing to take the field this week for season openers. Some of them, that is.
No. 1 Duncanville was scheduled to open Friday against Nolan Catholic (Fort Worth), but that game has been called off for "health and safety reasons."
But those seeking big time teams and matchups need look no further than two-time defending Class 6A Division I state champion and No. 2 North Shore (Houston), who kicks off against No. 7 Shadow Creek (Pearland) – the defending Class 5A Division I champ.
No. 9 DeSoto is involved in another game worth keeping an eye on against perennial power Judson (Converse.)
Among teams who have played games, Argyle (4-0) checks in at No. 10 following Friday's 35-7 win over La Vega (Waco). From a rankings perspective, the Eagles have the biggest win on record this season in their 52-41 victory over Pleasant Grove (Texarkana) back on Sept. 4.
