Basketball Recap: Wootton Falls Despite Big Games from Maya Bellamy and Malia Bellamy

If Wootton was feeling good fresh off their 61-16 takedown of Watkins Mill last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wootton Patriots took a 42-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Damascus Hornets on Tuesday. The Patriots have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Wootton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Malia Bellamy, who posted 13 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, and Maya Bellamy, who earned eight points and eight rebounds. Malia is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played.

Even though they lost, Wootton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Wootton now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Damascus, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.

Wootton will be playing in front of their home fans against Quince Orchard at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Wootton is facing Quince Orchard at the right time seeing as Quince Orchard is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Damascus has already played their next game (against Churchill), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
