Basketball Recap: Pahrump Valley Takes a Loss

Pahrump Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 71-44 loss at the hands of The Meadows School Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Mustangs are ranked 35th).

Pahrump Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Keir Sheppard and Joshua Slusher. Sheppard went 5 for 10 en route to 14 points, while Slusher posted six points and six assists. Those six assists gave Slusher a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucas Gavenda, who scored five points.

The Meadows School's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grant Moses, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Moses is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Fink, who went 6 for 12 en route to 14 points and eight assists.

Pahrump Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for The Meadows School, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-7.

Pahrump Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 81-36 defeat against Legacy on the 18th. The Meadows School has also already played their next game (against Green Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
