St. Pius X is 8-2 against Valencia since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Sartans will look to defend their home field against the Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. St. Pius X is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
On Monday, St. Pius X earned a 9-6 win over Belen. The Sartans haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jordan Chavez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Aubri Hooee, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Chavez wasn't the only one making solid contact: St. Pius X kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Valencia had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Grants by a score of 19-14 on Tuesday.
Lauren Brandt and Jaden Martinez-Flowers did most of the damage at the plate: Brandt scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Martinez-Flowers went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Brandt a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Tafoya, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
St. Pius X's win bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Valencia, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
Valencia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Pius X has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Valencia, though, as they've been averaging 12 hits. Given St. Pius X's sizable advantage in that area, the Jaguars will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Pius X took their win against Valencia when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2 score. Do the Sartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
