Softball Recap: Bay Rockets vs. Tallmadge Blue Devils
Bay had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 6-15 to make it four. They lost 13-2 to the Tallmadge Blue Devils. If the Rockets were looking for revenge after losing 26-0 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Bay saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maeve McFarland, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Tallmadge, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.
On Tallmadge's side, Taryn Roberts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Roberts has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaelyn Malott, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Camryn Ickes also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Bay does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Tallmadge, they are taking a road trip to face off against GlenOak at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
