Baseball Recap: Medina's Undefeated Season over After 14 Games

After some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Medina finally came back down to earth on Saturday. They fell 4-1 to the Wellsville Lions. The contest marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Lucas Grimes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

Having lost for the first time this season, Medina fell to 13-1. As for Wellsville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5.

Medina and Wellsville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Mustangs (ranked fifth) will meet Barker (ranked 590th) at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Wellsville will challenge Hornell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (169 vs. 607).
