Softball Game Preview: Langley Saxons vs. Washington-Liberty Generals

The Langley Saxons will face off against the Washington-Liberty Generals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Langley has six straight victories, Washington-Liberty has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Langley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: McLean, who was ranked 13th at the time (Langley was ranked 24th). The Saxons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Highlanders a 1-0 shutout on Friday.

The result came thanks to Norah Jacques's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Washington-Liberty scored first but ultimately less than Wakefield in their game on Friday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 17-1 to the Warriors, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Washington-Liberty saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Celia Anbinder, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Langley pushed their record up to 13-5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Washington-Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Langley took their win against Washington-Liberty in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 10-1 score. Do the Saxons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
