Wheatland is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Durham is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pirates will host the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Wheatland made easy work of Bear River and carried off a 20-7 win. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Chasidy Sills made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with four RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Wheatland got a massive performance out of Tatum Sousa, who went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Ella Woolery was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 16 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Durham made easy work of Pierce on Friday and carried off an 11-2 win.
Like Wheatland, Durham also got a great game from a two-way player: Annalee Horn. Throwing, Horn tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Sadie Sjolund struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At the plate, Horn went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Sjolund went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four hits gave Sjolund a new career-high.
In other batting news, Trinity Kolu was excellent, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
Durham is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Wheatland, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.
Both Wheatland and Durham just can't seem to miss. The Pirates have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Durham struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
