Volleyball Recap: Amphitheater Takes a Loss

Amphitheater was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Douglas Bulldogs, falling 3-0. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-14, 25-11.

Loss or not, Amphitheater got some senior leadership from Isabella Espinoza and Kayla Tuakalau. Espinoza had 16 assists and two aces, while Tuakalau had nine kills. With that strong performance, Espinoza is now averaging an impressive 12.1 assists per game.

Janessa Sanchez was nothing short of spectacular for Douglas: she had 18 digs and one assist. Sanchez has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last eight times she's played. Brianna Munoz was another key player, getting six digs and three aces.

Amphitheater's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Douglas, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Amphitheater didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Cholla on the 8th. As for Douglas, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Rio Rico on the 8th.
