Preview: Quitman vs. Poyen
Quitman will challenge Poyen on the road at 7:00 PM on Friday. If you head out to watch the game, expect to stay the whole 48 minutes: the MaxPreps rankings predict a close match.
Quitman entered their matchup against Conway Christian last Friday without any home losses -- but there's a first time for everything. Quitman ended up on the wrong side of a painful 15-42 walloping at Conway Christian's hands. The defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of senior Seth Haynes, who caught passes for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns, and sophomore Holden Martin, who passed for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Martin's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in Quitman's past seven games.
Meanwhile, Poyen were able to grind out a solid victory over Bigelow, winning 39-28. The success made it back-to-back wins for Poyen.
Poyen's win lifted them to 5-2 while Quitman's loss dropped them down to 5-2. In their win, Poyen relied heavily on senior Jacob Farmer, who threw 3 TDs and picked up 71 yards on the ground. Quitman will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
