Basketball Recap: Lake County Gets the Win

Lake County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 46-45 W against the Cotopaxi Pirates. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lake County was led to victory by Jaxon Wood and Isaiah Martinez. Wood dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, while Martinez posted 18 points. The contest was Martinez's eighth in a row with at least 16 points. Canaan Hall was another key player, putting up five points.

Lake County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Cotopaxi lost, don't look at Terrance Evans. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Evans has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joel Tezak, who to rack up 10 points and three steals.

Lake County's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-12. As for Cotopaxi, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-4.

Lake County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-61 victory against Arrupe Jesuit on the 24th. As for Cotopaxi, they will venture away from home to challenge Cripple Creek-Victor at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
