Softball Recap: Cumberland Has No Trouble Against Prince Edward County

After low-scoring totals in their previous six game, Cumberland brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Prince Edward County Eagles on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Dukes in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won eight in a row.

K. Womack was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, S. Winslow was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. K Dudley was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Cumberland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prince Edward County only posted a batting average of .269.

Cumberland picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-14. As for Prince Edward County, they dropped their record down to 0-12-1 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

As of now, neither Cumberland nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
