Recap: Kings Mountain Mountaineers vs. Crest Chargers
If the Kings Mountain Mountaineers were feeling good off their 74-52 takedown of the West Charlotte Lions last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Kings Mountain was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 79-78 to Crest. Kings Mountain has struggled against Crest recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Kings Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Bradley Floyd scored 24 points along with nine rebounds. Floyd is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Nixon, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Crest found their leader in underclassman King Rhodes, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Rhodes hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Aj Adams, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Kings Mountain's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5. As for Crest, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kings Mountain will take on Stuart W. Cramer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Stuart W. Cramer is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Crest, they will head out on the road to face off against Forestview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Forestview will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Crest is ranked 37th).
