Basketball Game Preview: Staunton River Golden Eagles vs. Fleming Colonels

Staunton River hasn't had much luck against Fleming recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Staunton River Golden Eagles will head out to challenge the Fleming Colonels at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Staunton River's defense stepped up to hand William Campbell a 1-0 shutout. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Generals are ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Fleming waltzed into their game on Friday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They blew past the Eagles 46-22. The Colonels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Fleming's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points over those games. As for Staunton River, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 19-2.

Staunton River was dealt a bruising 64-33 defeat at the hands of Fleming in their previous matchup back in January. Can Staunton River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
