Softball Recap: Aloha Comes Up Short

Aloha dropped to 11-18 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 10-1 to the Mountainside Mavericks. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.

Aloha saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nellie Foust, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Mountainside, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 26-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Mountainside's side, Jojo Appling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Appling has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Kawaguchi, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Olivia Patterson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Aloha will square off against rival Jesuit at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Meanwhile, Mountainside is set to face off against their familiar foe Southridge at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
