Baseball Game Preview: Normal West Wildcats vs. Urbana Tigers

Normal West is a perfect 9-0 against Urbana since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 2:30 p.m. Normal West's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Urbana's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Normal West will head out to face Urbana after giving up their first home loss of the season on Saturday. The Wildcats took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bradley-Bourbonnais.

Chase Reinhart was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sam McCully was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. He also put up a run, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Torin DeLaere, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Urbana fell victim to Villa Grove and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the Blue Devils. The Tigers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Normal West suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 7-3. As for Urbana, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Everything went Normal West's way against Urbana in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Normal West made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
