The Minden Crimson Tide will square off against the North DeSoto Griffins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Minden managed to keep up with Loyola College Prep until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Crimson Tide lost 71-48 to the Flyers.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaden Johnson, who threw for 240 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 75 yards on only ten carries. Lucas Owens Jr. was another key rusher, rushing for 99 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries.
Meanwhile, North DeSoto strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 44-16 victory over Booker T. Washington-Shreveport. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Griffins' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Lions are ranked 194th).
Minden better keep an eye on Braelyn Latin. He was instrumental in North DeSoto's win, rushing for 171 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. Those 171 rushing yards gave Latin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerry Hunter, who rushed for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: North DeSoto was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 214 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Minden's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-3. As for North DeSoto, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Minden has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 238.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North DeSoto struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 252.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
